A restaurant, named Nasi Uduk Babi Buncit, which primarily sells pork products located in Lippo Mall Puri in West Jakarta, Malaysia has decided to fire one their employees after a picture went viral of her serving pork, whilst wearing a Hijab.
The picture of the worker wearing what looks like a Muslim headscarf was taken by the restaurant manager who uploaded it to social media. The picture depicts the woman serving a meal standing in front of banners with cartoon images of pigs. The dish she is serving is the restaurant's signature dish, a coconut based pork curry.
The restaurant decided to fire their employee as her wearing the hijab whilst serving pork drew critical comments. They released a statement onto their social media accounts reading, "“We no longer employ women wearing the hijab as of May 20, 2016, after receiving suggestions from Muslims who contacted us," they also went on to apologise to anyone who was offended by the picture. They also stated that the worker didn't eat any pork whilst on duty.
