Hajj Fraudster Jailed For 30 Months

Mudassir Shaheen jailed after defrauding Muslims of £34,250 after claiming to be a Hajj Travel Agency

Mudassir Shaheen, 38, from Bolton, England has been jailed for 30 months after being convicted of 10 counts of theft, reported by The Bolton News . 

Mudassir, married father-of-four , over the course of a an 8 month period starting in 2013 started a business, named  Karwan Al Madina Travel,  it was advertised on the  Ummah Channel on SKY TV as a reputable Hajj travel agency.

He managed to secure 10 cash transactions totaling £34,250($50,000) from customers hoping to travel to Mecca for their Hajj pilgrimage, none of their trips took place.

Mudassir has since spent the money he was paid and now is required to hand over his money left in his bank account to his defrauded customers as compensation or face a further 4 months in jail. The money provided by Mudassir is totaled at £6,572.38($9500) which will be used to compensate 10 of his customers.

the judge overseeing the trial stated that "From the point of view of the victims, something is better than nothing"
