By most, if not all Muslim scholars, Friday the 13th is seen as shirk but in the western world, it is seen as a day of Unlucky things occurring. I'm here to combine the two and see how unlucky events which occurred on Friday the 13th have affected Muslims and the Islamic world. In short were these event lucky or unlucky for us.

The Kights templar was a group of high-ranking warriors who fought in the crusades. On October 13th 1307 King Philip IV of France and the Pope of the Roman Catholic church decreed sent their men to raid the homes and arrest members of the Kights Templar due to suspicion of illegal activities. They managed to capture several thousand men belonging to the group many of the men were tortured with hundred dying in the process. Well, was this lucky or unlucky for us ? This was obviously unlucky for the soldiers but it was pretty lucky for the Muslim world as the King Philip IV managed to deplete numbers of the Kights Templar and decrease combat morale.

Genghis Khan
Genghis Khan

Rumor has it that Genghis khan had his first defeat on Friday the 13th. It was when he was a child he had a fight with 5 older children and lost, he vowed never to lose again. Since that defeat, Khan grew to become a conqueror of nations and defeating his foes in battle. This was pretty unlucky for the Islamic world as Genghis khan had his eyes firmly aimed at the Muslim states defeating many armies in battle, pillaging the lands and enslaving its people.

On November 13th, 1970, Bangladesh was struck by a devastating Earthquake killing 300,000 people in Chittagong. These Earthquakes had a created floods in the area which further killed 1 million in the Ganges delta. This was definitely unlucky for Muslims as many people died or were displaced due to the natural disaster.

Last year on the night of Friday the 13th, November 2015, there was Terror attacks in Paris, where suicide bombers struck at a concert hall killing 130 people and leaving hundreds wounded. This was unlucky for everyone involved as many lost loved ones during the attack and the aftermath of the attack left high tension between the western world and Muslims. This attack further partitioned relations of French and French-Muslims, many in the country are still recovering the from the harrowing events of the attack.
