The 1st February 2017 celebrates World Hijab Day. World Hijab Day celebrates women's right to cover their hair and themselves with modesty.
World Hijab Day(WHD) is a non-profit movement founded by Nazma Khan in 2013, it's organized the first annual WHD, which encourages women of all religion to adorn the hijab for a day to support Muslim women who are being discriminated against due to their choice of garment.
In a recent press release, WHD released a statement of the importance of wearing a hijab on February 1st 2017,
"World Hijab Day asks global citizens of all faiths to observe Hijab (head-covering) for a day in solidarity with Muslim women worldwide.
The overall mission of WHD is to create a more peaceful world where global citizens respect each other. Particularly, WHD focuses on fighting bigotry, discrimination, and prejudice against Muslim women. This is most crucial in these times where Hijab is being banned in some countries while in other countries, Muslim women are being targeted and harassed verbally and physically."
WHD have estimated 90 countries will take part in wearing a hijab for 2017. Below, people all over the world showing their support for WHD:
