
In the early hours of Saturday morning, 28th January, a blaze was ignited at Victoria Islamic Centre, On East Airline Road, Victoria, Texas. the fire was fought by the fire department but unfortunately, the mosque was completely destroyed.
The Victoria fire department fought the blaze for 4 hours before they were able to completely extinguish the blaze, no one was injured in the fire. The police and fire department are working together to investigate the fire and probe whether it was a deliberate attempt of arson or accidental.
On the early hours of Sunday morning the president of the Islamic center, Shahid Hashmi, held a public prayer gathering with a number of religious leaders and promised to rebuilt the mosque with the help of the community.
Members of the of the congregation have started a GoFundMe to help rebuild the mosque, the donation page has been able to gather over $800,000 of the 850,000 goal in just 2 days by 17,643 supporters.
