Muslim Man Pleads Guilty To Setting Fire To His Own Mosque

Last year on Christmas Day 2015, 38-year-old, Gary Nathaniel Moore who goes by the name Jamal Moore was arrested under  the suspicion of arson at The Islamic Society Of Greater Houston, in Texas. Gary Moore has pleaded guilty to his charges.

On 5th December 2015, the  Houston Fire Department responded to the fire about 2:47 pm. Through investigation, they found lighter fluid on the premises. Surveillance footage showed Gary Moore leaving the building, making him the prime suspect in the arson of a religious building.

The police searched through Gary Moore's homes and found the same lighter fluid which was used to set alight the mosque, Gary was arrested on suspicion of setting alight the mosque and was held at Harris County Jail on a $100,000 bond whilst awaiting trial.

On the 9th December 2016, Gary Moore's trial began, he was facing 99 years to life imprisonment for the first-degree felony arson of The Islamic Society Of Greater Houston. He pleaded guilty to all charges against him, he was given a lighter sentence of four years in prison.

The reasoning behind the starting of the fire has not been determined. The President of the Islamic Society of Greater Houston, said in a statement, "Moore did attend the prayer services there, but I wouldn't call him a regular".
