On Tuesday, 15th November, a non-Muslim woman has had her car windows smashed and left a threatening note after the assailant believed the woman to be a Muslim.

Nicki Pancholy, 41, wears a headscarf due to her suffering from the autoimmune disease, Lupus. Nicki has been hiking the Berkeley Hills in San Fransisco Bay, California, for 65 days in a row, as part of a "Peace Walk".

Her recent trip was to Mission Peak in Fremont, she went for a regular hike whilst wearing a headscarf to protect her scalp from the sun. As she came back from her walk she saw her car vandalized, her car windows were smashed in and a threatening note was left.

The note read, “Hijab wearing b**** this is our nation now get the f*** out!”.

Nicki posted a video explaining what happened to her on Facebook.

She spoke to KPIX 5, telling them of the believed motives of the attacker, “I believe that they’re being controlled by fear, I believe that fear has consumed them.”

Nicki told KNTV of the moment she read the note, “When I saw it, I was in shock, that someone would feel so much hate to do this. I realize that this is the climate after this election. But I didn’t realize someone would be so ignorant and in so much pain to cause so much harm.”

Nicki stated that her ethnicity is Rajastani Indian, and that her religion is love, not Islam.

The San Francisco Bay Area chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA) Executive Director Zahra Billoo, said in a press release “Californians of all faiths and backgrounds should be free of harassment and intimidation as they go about their daily lives, local police should investigate this incident as a possible violation of our state’s criminal statutes.”

East Bay Regional Park Police are investigating the note as a hate crime and auto burglary
