On Friday the 14th October, the FBI announced Curtis Wayne Allen, 49; Patrick Eugene Stein, 47; and Gavin Wayne Wright, 49, were arrested and charged with conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction in Garden City, Kansas.
The three Kansas men were arrested for planning to bomb a southwest Kansas mosque and apartment building which housed an estimated 120 Muslim immigrants, predominantly from Somalia.
It was stated that the three men belonged to a small right-wing militia group called The Crusaders. The men had plotted to set a bomb off at the apartment complex and mosque o November 9th, a day after the presidential elections.
The FBI searched the homes of the three suspects and were able to find stockpiled weapons and ammunitions, it is noted that officers seized nearly a metric ton of ammunition from Allen’s home.
The official document released detailed recorded conversations between the group, Patrick Stein expressed, “Make sure if you start using your bow on them cockroaches, make sure you dip them in pig’s blood before you shoot them”, as well as saying, “the only good Muslim is a dead Muslim.”
The FBI released information which claimed that they began their investigation on the white supremacist unit on Tuesday, 16th February 2016, 8 months prior to the trios arrest.
CAIR National Executive Director Nihad Awad encouraged increased protection for Muslims, in a press release after the incident was publicized, "Given this alleged plan to attack a Kansas mosque, the two other hate incidents reported today against Islamic institutions in Michigan and New Jersey, and the overall spike in anti-mosque incidents nationwide, state and federal authorities should offer stepped-up protection to local communities,".
