Dan Ruedinger, the owner of Treats Family Restaurant & Ice Cream Parlor based in Lonsdale, Minnesota, has put up a sign outside of his restaurant reading 'Muslims Get Out'.
Mr. Ruedinger has stated that he put up the sign in a response to the knife attack at St Cloud mall which happened last weekend on 17th Saturday.
The restaurant owner told CBS, “It’s time that people started standing up, not worrying about the PC crowd and do what is right, and I feel what we’re doing is right. We are not targeting the Muslims in general, just the extremists. And that’s all I can say. It’s my right and I’m going to stand up, and I wish more people would do it.”
In response to Dan putting up the offensive sign CAIR(Council Of American-Islamic Relations) has reached out to Mr. Ruedinger and have invited him to attend a mosque, as a way to decrease his Islamophobic behavior. CAIR-Minnesota's Executive Director Jaylani Hussein stated, “Our experience has shown that interaction with ordinary American Muslims and enhanced knowledge of Islam are key factors in the reduction of Islamophobic attitudes, we invite Mr. Ruedinger to visit the mosque in Fairbault and to learn more about Muslims and Islam in Minnesota.”
The Treats Family Restaurant & Ice Cream Parlor has received negative online attention since the sign was put up with numerous individuals leaving 1-star reviews on sites such as Trip Advisor and Yelp.
Dan Ruedinger has not commented on whether he will participate in attending a mosque.
