Attempted Arson At Edinburgh Mosque

Edinburgh Mosque has been subjected to an attempted arson attack, the arsonist has not been found

Edinburgh Police are investigating a hate crime which occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning.

At 02:10am on Sunday 18th September, a man threw an object at the main entrance of Edinburgh Central Mosque, located in the in the Potterrow area. The object ignited at the door and caused minor fire damage t the door. The fire damaged a small bush in the garden area nearby the entrance.

Detective Inspector John Kavanagh, from Police Scotland, stated in a press release, "Fortunately no-one was injured as a result of this incident, but the consequences could have been far worse had the fire taken hold and spread."

The attacker reportedly spoke to a group of females in George Square before the attack. The police have described the man to be in his early 30s, he had very short hair, wore a short-sleeved black top with a white emblem on the front and dark trousers.

Officers are urging anyone in the area who witnessed the attack to come forth and aid the police in finding the Islamophobic arsonist.
